Admissions and daily life

Admissions
A three-step process: first a broad assessment of needs and wishes to check the home can meet them; then on admission a staff assessment of specific needs, including safety risks and meal preferences, which becomes the Personal Care Plan; then a fuller assessment over the following seven days or so. The plan is formally reviewed every three months and family can be involved if the resident wishes.
Visiting
Open visiting policy; visits from family and friends are always encouraged. Residents are also encouraged to go out socially with family and friends for a few hours, a day, or overnight and longer stays, with staff helping to decide what is advisable.
Funding
The group's funding page explains the Nursing Homes Support Scheme (Fair Deal), under which the resident contributes and the State pays the balance and residents choose their nursing home, and sets out the care needs assessment, financial assessment and optional Nursing Home Loan steps. Families are invited to ask about the scheme at the consultation stage.
Rooms and facilities
Purpose-built ground-floor home from 1993, most recently extended in 2014, with 57 single rooms, 40 of them en-suite. There is a large garden with a long walk around the house and three secure outdoor gardens reached from the sitting room. In-house physiotherapy, hairdressing and chiropody are available.
Daily life
All rooms and the main sitting room have a television, with good mobile and wifi reception and a landline at reception. Breakfast is brought to the room and other meals can be taken in the dining room or the room, with drinks available at any time. Newspapers can be delivered daily and a hairdresser attends each week.
